What are your New Year's resolutions?

[caption id="attachment_751" align="alignnone" width="330" caption="San Francisco based Artist & CEO"]San Francisco based Artist & CEO[/caption] “I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions?”  When I hear this I think “Really? Why the hell not?  What do you have to lose? Wouldn’t it serve you to live a more deliberate and purposeful life, to determine what you really want, to have it, and to be who you want to be?" I look at resolutions simply as goals. They are a healthy diet for your time and energy. It’s true that we can blow our resolutions. But if we are clear, very specific, and commit them to writing the odds that we’ll succeed increase dramatically. Yes, you might not meet them.  But if you don’t, the worst thing that can happen is that you will have made some positive impact in your life and you can try again. Or, you can blow your limited budget of time and life force on TV, video games, small talk, keeping the same routine and habits, and general BS. I think that the hesitation to set goals comes from two things: a basic fear of commitment and a fear of failure.  But what’s the alternative?  It’s failing.  So you might as well set clear goals and chart a plan. I have a much greater fear of not experiencing my potential, which is exactly what I did for years before I set clear goals.  I meandered miserably from cubicle to cubicle with personal frustration and disappointment always brewing beneath the surface. By setting goals I’ve accomplished things I only dreamed of before and I’m more satisfied, confident, and happier.  Isn’t this the name of the game?  Isn’t that worth it? Commit to a goal and to to dealing with all of the obstacles between you and that goal.
